Job Title: Assistant Programme Officer (Protection of Women’s Rights)

Duration: Initial Contract of 1 year – Renewable

Key Responsibilities
The main roles and responsibilities of the APO will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist in identifying women’s rights programmatic requirements.
  • Assist the Programme Officer: Legal Sector in developing LSF work plans that sufficiently incorporate the protection of women’s rights, including activity descriptions.
  • The APO will manage the implementation of these activities, through LSF partners, in order to ensure the activities are executed on time, to adequate standards and with the desired outputs and outcomes.
  • Assist in providing technical support to LSF grantees/partners or recommend helpful other resources as appropriate.
  • Assist in conducting follow-ups through site visits and mentor LSF grantees in areas of reporting, advocacy, communication and networking.
  • Assist in tracking the programme’s progress and propose changes to the activity plans where appropriate.
  • Help in resolving grant implementation problems of grantees.
  • Participate actively in contributing to documentation of “success stories” and other necessary information for purposes of enhancing the overall LSF quality performance.
  • Assist in advising grant applicants on LSF areas of focus
  • Organize, assist in, and facilitate meetings, workshops, training sessions, presentations and other events.
  • Represent the LSF in meetings and forums and
  • Undertake other duties to assist programme implementation as assigned by the LSF
  • Fund Manager.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
The minimum required academic and professional skills for successful job performance are:
Academic Qualifications
  • At minimum a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of Social Sciences.
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience in women’s rights and legal empowerment of women.
Essential Competencies
  • Experience in managing women’s rights projects with a technical assistance and capacity building component
  • Excellent communication (including writing) skills, both in Swahili and English, and proven ability to work in a team
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • Self- driven and able to deliver results within minimum supervision and prepared to go ‘the extra mile’.
  • Awareness and commitment to women’s human rights, legal empowerment, paralegal work and the provision of legal aid.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working
  • relationship with LSF colleagues, grantees and other legal aid stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under-pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize and multi task.
  • Mature work practices, highly motivated, demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to responds positively to mentoring and directions.
