COET is a Tanzanian NGO that supports street-involved children and youth, as well as at risk and vulnerable families.
We are looking for candidates who are qualified in Social Work or a relevant degree and who have had 2 – 3 years experience working in the field of social / community work. We are also looking for candidates who are responsible, hard-working and self motivated, as well as being committed and passionate for working towards our objectives of supporting street-involved children, youth and their families.
In addition to this, it is very important that candidates have strong relationship skills with a special ability to relate to children and youth, who are non-judgemental with a positive outlook, as well as being highly empathetic with a strong emotional stability.
We have Social Worker posts in the Community, Reunification/family work and Street work, in which each of these positions entails the following:
Community Social worker:
This position includes identifying target girls in identified communities, in collaboration with local authorities and community actors, working to build positive relationships with the aim to provide IGA and setting up of self-help groups. It is essential that you have good skills in liaising and coordinating with stakeholders relevant to the target beneficiaries.
Reunification/family Social Worker:
The main role in this position is to effectively prepare both the child and his/her family for the reunification of the child to his family, which includesbuilding good and trusting relationships with each child and their family, working towards building positive relationships and interaction within the family. This role also works to ensure the protection and care of every child within the family. This includes providing the children and guardians within the family with regular counseling, ensuring that a therapeutic response is taken with each case.
Street Social Worker:
The main role of a Street Social Worker is to make contact and build positive and friendly relations with children and youth living or involved with the the streets and / or involved in sexual exploitation. This includes listening and being responsive to the needs of these children / youth, providing them with emotional support, as well as identifying the potential and abilities of these beneficiaries to help them to look towards a more positive future. In some cases, it will include providing a referral service of identified children who need additional support, as well as preparing them to go to a centre or home, or for additional services. The flexibility of working hours and the ability to carry out street work during night hours is essential for this position.
