Purpose:
The purpose of the post of Compound Cleaner is to ensure a clean and tidy environment is maintained in all external areas of the office compound.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Daily office cleaning and grooming to ensure the office is in an immaculate state ie daily cleaning of dust and cobwebs from the office
  • Attend to all incoming guests by ensuring that they are provided with tea/ coffee plus manage tea/coffee during meetings
  • Daily tea preparation plus ensuring that thermos and associated items are clean and are with hot water through out the day
  • Daily cleaning of office washrooms and ensure that toilet utilities such as soap, toilet paper and fresh hand towels are availabale at all times
  • Ensure that all waste from the kitchen is well stored away to avoid mice and cockroach; this also includes all food leftovers
  • Managing all office waste papers to ensure that they are well sorted out before final disposal
  • Manage kitchen sundries stock and ensure purchase of such items
  • Ensure that kitchen items such as fridge, heater and microwave are maintained and well taken care of. This also includes managing cleaning items such as mops, brooms, towels which should be kept well
  • Manage office insecticide control to ensure that frequent fumigation is done
  • Assist the front office on a need basis and on specific tasks such as receiving phone calls, photocopying, receiving guests, and scanning

Person Specification

  • At least O’level education with adequate numeric and literacy skills
  • Practical experience in office cleanness
  • An aptitude for indoor work
  • Conscientious and thorough with the ability to ensure that all steps in the tasks outlined above are carried out fully and well
  • An added advantage would include English language skills

  • Support school management committees in developing community engagement, voice and accountability plans.
  • Work with the other team members to conduct a communications needs assessment exercise and stakeholder analysis, develop a communications strategy and select effective, efficient and innovative communications tools to utilize in community advocacy activities.
  • Generate support for the programme and develop strategic alliances through leading effective advocacy efforts at all levels.
  • Ensure a gender-positive and quality-oriented perspective is mainstreamed and gender sensitive language is used in all programme communications
  • Work with the Education Program Manager to engage key community actors in a dialogue around an inter-disciplinary analysis of strength and weaknesses in the community practices, mechanisms, and systems of protecting children against violence. Mobilize local partners (teachers, school/institution, caregivers, medical staff and other professionals as appropriate).
  • Facilitate development of community-specific action plans and provide technical guidance throughout their implementation;
  • Provide support in organization and implementation of the community-level activities, including monthly group meetings, capacity building activities, briefings, case conferences, parental and child education, awareness raising and information campaigns. etc. Organize community-based awareness-raising and education events and campaigns.
  • Work with Radio Kwizera  for airing of Public-Social Advertisements (PSAs) and publication of program articles, success stories and materials;
  • Provide support in establishment of community monitoring groups with participation of parents, other IP’s and professionals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant University degree;
  • Extensive work experience in social work with a focus on community development and mobilization. Proven experience record of community mobilization in rural or camp based settings;
  • Excellent organizational skills. High level of maturity, responsibility and accountability;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for diversity. Capability to create strong partnerships among all program stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Flexible personality and willingness to work irregular hours;
  • Strong presentation and computer skills in MS Word and Excel;
  • Fluency in English and Swahili, both verbal and written, required.
