 Job Title:   School Management and Community Mobilization Manager

Specific duties:
The role of the SM&CMM is to build partnership, stakeholders’ support and mobilize efforts to deliver expected education results. SM&CMM will be a “catalyst” for raising community activism, participation and ownership towards education program. SM&CMM will ensure sustained commitment to change and expectations of the education system is supported from grass-roots stakeholders upwards, resulting from increased levels of awareness, engagement and ownership among stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities.
  • Advocacy and community mobilization and engagement in school improvement.
  • Support school management committees in developing community engagement, voice and accountability plans.
  • Work with the other team members to conduct a communications needs assessment exercise and stakeholder analysis, develop a communications strategy and select effective, efficient and innovative communications tools to utilize in community advocacy activities.
  • Generate support for the programme and develop strategic alliances through leading effective advocacy efforts at all levels.
  • Ensure a gender-positive and quality-oriented perspective is mainstreamed and gender sensitive language is used in all programme communications
  • Work with the Education Program Manager to engage key community actors in a dialogue around an inter-disciplinary analysis of strength and weaknesses in the community practices, mechanisms, and systems of protecting children against violence. Mobilize local partners (teachers, school/institution, caregivers, medical staff and other professionals as appropriate).
  • Facilitate development of community-specific action plans and provide technical guidance throughout their implementation;
  • Provide support in organization and implementation of the community-level activities, including monthly group meetings, capacity building activities, briefings, case conferences, parental and child education, awareness raising and information campaigns. etc. Organize community-based awareness-raising and education events and campaigns.
  • Work with Radio Kwizera  for airing of Public-Social Advertisements (PSAs) and publication of program articles, success stories and materials;
  • Provide support in establishment of community monitoring groups with participation of parents, other IP’s and professionals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant University degree;
  • Extensive work experience in social work with a focus on community development and mobilization. Proven experience record of community mobilization in rural or camp based settings;
  • Excellent organizational skills. High level of maturity, responsibility and accountability;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for diversity. Capability to create strong partnerships among all program stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Flexible personality and willingness to work irregular hours;
  • Strong presentation and computer skills in MS Word and Excel;
  • Fluency in English and Swahili, both verbal and written, required.
